Note: Brazing copper to brass

Objective:

To braze copper and brass connections for heat exchangers in a cooling system

End Product:

cooling system

Equipment:

Ambrell 10 kW induction heating system, equipped with a remote workhead An induction heating coil designed and developed specifically for this application.

Materials:

Copper and brass tubes, a brazing ring from a lower quality alloy (customer requirement)

Temperature:

700 °C (1292 °F)

Frequency:

50 kHz

Testing:

A four-turn helical coil is used to braze copper to brass connections. Lower quality alloy was used to join the parts. The process took 20 seconds with the use of induction heating. To compare, flame brazing of the same parts took 10 minutes.

Benefits:

  • Produces repeatable, rapid and accurate heating cycles making it ideal for in-line production processes

  • Even distribution of heating

  • Clean and durable process of joining
