Cap Sealing; Shampoo Container

Objective

To heat aluminum foil inside a plastic shampoo cap for sealing

End Product

shampoo cap

Equipment

Ambrell EASYHEAT™ 7.5 kW, 150-400 kHz solid state induction power supply with a workhead and coil specifically designed for this application.

Materials

2.0” (50.8 mm) diameter, plastic flip top cap, with a 0.9” (22.9 mm) diameter aluminum foil seal

Temperature

250-300 ºF (120-150 ºC)

Frequency

225 kHz

Testing

A three-turn two-position helical coil was used to heat the aluminum foil in a tunnel style assembly. Product (containers) passed easily under the induction coil. The assembly is located such that the entire perimeter of the aluminum foil was heated uniformly. The container and cap were placed under the coil and RF power delivered for 0.12 seconds. The aluminum foil heated and sealed to the plastic of the cap. Testing proved the viability of this cap sealing application.

Benefits

  • uses a simple, economical coil design

  • increases throughput with a dual-position coil

  • delivers quality, consistent seals

  • offers a repeatable process, well-suited for automation
